News New Realm Brewing to Open Fourth Location in South Carolina
New Realm Brewing Co. has announced it will open its fourth location, a 11,000 square-foot facility on Daniel Island in Charleston, S.C. The new location will have on-site brewing, a restaurant, outdoor patio space and a live music venue.

News New York International Beer Competition Announces 2021 Medal Winners
Medal winners at the 10th Annual New York International Beer Competition have been announced. Over 600 submissions from around the world were submitted and judged by trade buyer judges. This year’s event was conducted virtually and the judging was done remotely.

News Sierra Nevada and Boston Beer to Reopen Taprooms
While the vast majority of breweries across the country rely heavily on their on-premise brewery taproom for revenue, the large distribution breweries have been focused on the big pivot to meeting the surge in off-premise demand over the last year. Many of the distributing breweries decided to shut down their on-premise sales completely.

News Ballast Point Brewing Will Open New San Francisco Brewery – Close Chicago Location
Kings & Convicts Brewing Co., the San Diego-headquartered owner of Ballast Point, announced yesterday that it is moving forward with a retail expansion of the 25-year-old craft brewery into Northern California. Plans to open a brewpub in San Francisco were originally announced in 2018 but later halted in 2019 by former owner Constellation Brands prior to the sale of Ballast Point to Kings & Convicts. Ballast Point San Francisco is expected to open by the end of the year and will join the craft brewery’s five Southern California locations in San Diego, Anaheim, and Long Beach.

News Take Two in Massachusetts – Night Shift Seeks Compensation in Loverboy Termination
It took ten years for craft brewers to finally pass franchise reform legislation earlier this year. And already there are two disputes between wholesalers and brewers. The first is a dispute between Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers and Atlantic Beverage Distributors as reported in ProBrewer News earlier this month.

News Brewery Owner is Appointed by Biden Administration to SBA Position
Julie Verratti, owner and operator of Denizens Brewing Co. in Maryland, was appointed to serve as an associate administrator of field operations for the U.S. Small Business Administration under President Joe Biden. She will oversee nearly 80 offices responsible for providing services to the country’s small businesses starting March 1.

News Boston Beer Reports Banner Year – Shipments up 54%
Driven by the huge growth of Truly Hard Seltzer, the Boston Beer Company reported fourth quarter 2020 net revenue of $460.9 million, up 53% from the fourth quarter of 2019. Shipments during the same period were up 54% while depletions increased by 37%.

News Tiny Oregon Brewery Wins First Round – Judge Orders AB to Halt Seltzer Ad
A U.S. District Judge has issued a temporary restraining ordering Anheuser-Busch to halt Michelob ULTRA Hard Seltzer ads that claim the seltzer is “the only” or “the first national USDA certified organic hard seltzer.”

City Brewing Co., the large La Crosse, Wisconsin-based company that mostly makes beer brands under contract has announced a “series of business updates” including a new investment group. The investor group includes Blue Ribbon Partners, makers of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
