Massachusetts’ brand-new franchise reform law is already being tested.
Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers has notified Atlantic Beverage Distributors that it plans to terminate its distributing agreement. But Atlantic is fighting back, filing a complaint with the state’s Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission to challenge the termination, and refusing to enter into arbitration with the brewer over a purchase price.
The battle comes after craft brewers and beer wholesalers in the state agreed to franchise reform legislation which was passed in January.
