News Mark Anthony Brands to Build Huge New Brewery
Mark Anthony Brewing, a subsidiary of Mark Anthony Brands, maker of White Claw Hard Seltzer, has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art brewery and production facility in Columbia, South Carolina. The company’s $400 million investment will be one of the largest breweries built in the U.S. in over 25 years according to a company press release.

News MOD Beverage Acquires Assets of TBA Beverage
Multi-brand beverage start-up MOD Beverage has acquired assets from the now-defunct TBA Beverage (formerly known as Craft Collective Beerworks and Factory Brewing). These assets include beer brands Spectrum Beer, Haus Lager, Phantom Beer and the Canadian operations of Seattle-based Odin Brewing, as well as the brewing facility at 1575 Vernon Drive, Vancouver, B.C.

News Boston Beer Reports Strong Qtr.3 with Shipments Up 30%
The Boston Beer Company reported third quarter 2020 net revenue of $492.8 million, an increase of $114.3 million or 30.2%, from the same period last year. Net income for the third quarter was $80.8 million, an increase of $36.0 million or 80.6% from the same period last year.

News Popular Beer Releases Take on New Format
Remember the long lines that some brewers generated during highly coveted beer releases (think Russian River’s Pliny the Younger release every February). Not gonna happen for awhile as brewers rethink new ways to release specialty beers without the onsite parties, lines and crowds.

News Mikkeller Brewing Closes NYC Location
According to the Mikkeller Brewing NYC Facebook page, the company is permanently closing its New York City location at Citi Field. The stadium location, which operated as a brewery, bar, and restaurant was opened in March of 2018 and was Mikkeller’s second U.S. brewery location next to San Diego. Mikkeller was founded in 2006 in Copenhagen and operates about 50 locations internationally.

News Boston Beer Appoints Sam Calagione to Board of Directors
The Boston Beer Company announced that and Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery, has been appointed to their Board of Directors, effective October 7, 2020. The company also appointed Michael M. Lynton, Chairman of Snap Inc., a social media and camera technology company.

News Effort to Unionize Surly Employees Fails by One Vote
A little over a month after Surly Brewing Company announced the closure of their Beer Hall location and employees announced their intent to unionize as part of Unite Here Local 17, a vote by the employees to join the union has failed – by one vote.

News New Belgium to Take Over Little Creatures Brewery in SF
New Belgium Brewing will have a presence in California. The Fort Collins, Colorado brewery, will be taking over the massive new space that Australian brewer Little Creatures recently opened in San Francisco, as reported in SF Eater.

News Brewdog Loses Trademark Dispute with Elvis Presley Estate
It’s yet another example of how delicate naming a beer can be. Scottish and US brewer Brewdog has may need to stop using the name of one of their best-selling beers, a grapefruit and blood orange IPA called ‘Elvis Juice’ after losing a trademark appeal against Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE), the company that manages the estate of the late singer.

News Yuengling & Molson Coors Form Joint Venture
Molson Coors Beverage Company and D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. have formed a joint venture to oversee and execute the westward expansion of Yuengling beer into states beyond its existing 22-state footprint and New England, the two companies said today.
