‘I Have Failed’ – One Brewer Who Doesn’t Blame C-19 for Its Closure

Beverage Industry News» Business of Beerposted Oct 7th, 2020 01:13:28PM by Tom McCormick

George Adams opened GAEL Brewing Co. in 2015 on Seneca Lake in New York state. Last week the brewery closed permanently.

Adams didn’t blame the coronavirus pandemic or the restrictive operating rules imposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Instead, he looked in the mirror and in a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday, Adams took the blame himself.

“This decision is a difficult one to make but based on an exhaustive analysis, the numbers did not add up,” Adams wrote. “The brewery did not make money at any time during its existence and I did not take one dollar of pay during the time that we were open. The failure of the business rests entirely on me. It was not NY State, Governor Cuomo, COVID-19 or any other excuse. The failure is because of me solely. The market has spoken loudly and they rejected our brand. I have failed. It is that simple.”

More details on the GAEL closure at Syracuse.com.

GAEL is not alone as brewery closures continue to add up in this very difficult year. A list of turn key breweries listed for sale here on the ProBrewer classifieds.
