News MillerCoors Sales Down, Profits Up
In a familiar story in this new age of global consolidated major-brewers, MillerCoors domestic sales to retailers was down 1.6 percent in the first-quarter but net income rose 16.6 percent to $275.3 million compared with the same period last year, driven by positive pricing growth, cost management and favorable product mix. Overall profits were up 16.6%.

News Craft Exports Up 86%
Based on results from a recently-completed industry survey, the Brewers Association (BA) reports record exports of American craft beer in 2011, and for the ninth consecutive year*. American craft breweries exported over 110,000 barrels of beer in 2011, valued at an estimated $23.4 million-a dramatic increase of 86 percent by volume and 97 percent by dollars over 2010 exports.

News Summit’s $6 mil Expansion
Summit Brewing Co. plans to spend about $6 million to expand capacity at its St. Paul brewery within the next two years. The brewery will add to its current building to create more space for fermentation, storage and packaging. With demand for its beers growing, “we will be in a world of hurt if [the expansion] doesn’t happen,” Summit founder Mark Stutrud told the Star-Tribune.

News TX Clarification on Recent Court Case
Last December, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas struck down some of Texas’ laws regarding beer labeling, advertising alcoholic content and suppliers telling consumers where their products can be found for purchase.
