News OH Consolidation – Hill to Sell to Heidelberg

Central Ohio’s oldest beer distributorship, Hill Distributing Co. may soon sell.

Cincinnati-based Heidelberg Distributing Co. announced yesterday that it had an agreement in place to buy the Columbus distributor founded by Charlie Hill in May 1933, a month after the end of Prohibition.

Hill is an “all-other” house selling some heritage domestic brands, a few craft and a large import book. Heidelberg is an AB house that also carries imports, craft and others.

The company said the deal could take until mid-May to close.

While Hill operates only in central Ohio and distributes just beer, Heidelberg distributes throughout Ohio and Kentucky and also sells wine.

The area’s two largest distributors are Columbus Distributing Co. and Superior Beverage Group. Heidelberg will become the third-largest after the acquisition of Hill is completed.
