Expanding into Craft Distilling for the Craft Brewer
The wine industry has a saying: it takes a lot of beer to make good wine. When it comes to spirits, there is actual truth in the saying. Distilling and brewing share a common production core, one that is synergistic in ways that are less applicable to wine. The commonality has intrigued many brewers and the industry has seen many beer and spirit operations open around the country. There are some hurdles to the process, unsurprising in the world of beverage alcohol, but the potential for expanding markets beyond beer are worth exploring.

The emailer is currently out of the country but will take care of the whole bill. But needs the brewery to front some cash, maybe through an app, if that’s OK.

News ProBrewer and Others Raise $255,000 for Michael Jackson Foundation
For the second year in a row, ProBrewer teamed up with Athletic Brewing to raise money for the Michael James Jackson Foundation (MJF). The effort raised more than $255,000 this year thanks to a matching $100,000 grant from Athletic Brewing and major donations from Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, Sam & Mariah Calgione/Boston Beer, Other Half, New Glarus and others as well as allied trade members such as Briess, Haas, Rahr and Yakima Chief.

A bill in California supported by the Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUSS) would allow retailers with a beer and wine license to also sell spirit-based RTD’s, a move which would further blur the line that has traditionally existed between spirits and beer and wine.

News Asahi Shuzo to Open Sake Brewery in US – Will It Give Sake a Boost?

Japan’s Asahi Shuzo announced plans to open a new $53 million sake plant in New York state. The facility, located in Hyde Park, will begin brewing sake in spring of 2023.
