News BA Announces New One-Day Business Seminar to Debut in San Diego
Full Pour, a new one-day event presented by the Brewers Association, will make its debut on Friday, June 21, at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego. News World Beer Cup Winners Announced
The Brewers Association handed out awards to 307 winners during the 2023 World Beer Cup (WBC) awards ceremony yesterday as the annual Craft Brewers Conference concluded in Nashville, TN. There were 10,213 entries submitted from 2,376 breweries from 51 countries.

News First-Ever National Black Brewers Association Launched at CBC in Nashville
A group of like-minded Black entrepreneurs announced the establishment of the National Black Brewers Association at the annual Craft Brewers Conference this week in Nashville, TN. The association is dedicated to promoting and supporting Black entrepreneurs in the brewing industry.

News Oregon Settles Lawsuit – Allows Out-of-State Breweries to Self-Distribute and Ship DTC
The state of Oregon and the Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission has quickly settled a lawsuit brought by Washington breweries. The settlement will allow out-of-state breweries to self-distribute and ship beer directly to consumers in Oregon, a big win for adjoining Washington craft brewers.

News Non-Alcoholic Offerings at Brewpubs Taking New Direction – Including NA Beer
It used to be that the non-alcoholic beverage selection at most brewpubs was simple; often a choice of a couple of sodas and maybe a kombucha. But today, as more consumers seek tasty, innovative beverages, and at the same time are drinking less alcohol, brewpubs are expanding their non-alcoholic offerings, often including non-alcoholic beer.

News Six Craft Brewery Equipment Suppliers Merge into Lotus Beverage Alliance
Six U.S. craft beverage equipment suppliers have merged in a $100 million deal to create Lotus Beverage Alliance. The six merged companies are Alpha Brewing Operations, GW Kent, Twin Monkeys, Stout Tanks and Kettles, Brewmation and Automated Extractions.

News Bud Light Controversy – Is All Publicity Good?

News BA Releases ‘Top 50’ List and 2023 Production Numbers
The Brewers Association (BA) today released annual production figures for the U.S. craft brewing industry. In 2022, small and independent brewers collectively produced 24.3 million barrels of beer, on par with 2021’s numbers, and craft’s overall beer market share by volume grew to 13.2%, up from 13.1% the previous year. The number of operating craft breweries continued to climb in 2022, reaching an all-time high of 9,552

News Bell’s Brewery Expanding Distribution Into Pacific Northwest
In a time when many craft breweries are retracting their distribution footprint to achieve better focus as the segment becomes more competitive, some are instead looking to gain sales by expanding into new markets. Bell’s Brewery which was acquired by Lion, a division of Japan’s Kirin, is adding new markets by expanding into the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

News Athletic Brewing to Match First $100,000 Donated to The MJF Foundation’s 2nd Annual Diversity Campaign
The Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing & Distilling (The MJF) has launched its second annual matching fundraising challenge in partnership with Athletic Brewing Company and ProBrewer. Beginning today and continuing through May 8, 2023, Athletic Brewing will match the first $100,000 in donations made to The MJF’s latest campaign, including contributions from both individuals and organizations.

News Constellation Beer Sales Drop 2% in Latest Qtr. – Predicts 7% Growth Over Next 12 Months
Constellation reported that quarterly beer shipments were down by 2% for the three months to the end of February. For the next 12 months the company predicts beer net sales growth of between 7% and 9%, indicating that the company is optimistic for the coming year.

The Brewers Association has announced the recipients of its 2023 Industry Awards. In past years the BA has announced the awards at the opening general session of the Craft Brewers Conference. This year, the award recipients have been announced prior to the conference and the recipients will be honored during a special ceremony at the conference in Nashville on Monday, May 8th.

News Quality Beverage in MA Purchased by Wine & Spirits Wholesaler Martignetti
Martignetti Companies, the sixth largest distributor of wine and spirits in the United States has announced that they will acquire Quality Beverage in Massachusetts. The deal is another indication that wine and spirit wholesalers are blending into the beer distribution side as the middle-tier continues to consolidate.

News Washington Bill to Lower DUI Threshold Fizzles at the State Capitol
A bill in the Washington state legislature to lower the intoxicated driving threshold from the federal standard of 0.08 to 0.05 has failed to meet a critical committee hearing deadline meaning the bill will not be able to move forward this session.

News Samuel Adams Accepting Applications for ‘Brewing & Business Experienceship’
Samuel Adams is inviting brewers nationwide to apply for its annual Brewing & Business Experienceship, offering mentorship for craft brewery founders through its philanthropy program, Brewing the American Dream. In its effort to support food and beverage entrepreneurs nationwide, each year the Experienceship offers one up-and-coming craft brewer the opportunity to access resources and support from Boston Beer Co. staff. The program culminates in a collaboration beer release brewed together with the brewers at Samuel Adams Boston Brewery.
