News Black-Owned Breweries Full Circle and Speakeasy Merge

Full Circle Brewing in Freson, California announced the acquisition of Speakeasy Ales and Lagers of San Francisco, merging together two of the state’s largest Black-owned and operated breweries.

Both breweries have been in business for over 20 years and both have been acquired from their founders. Speakeasy was purchased by Ces Butner, a onetime Oakland mayoral candidate and former owner of an Anheuser-Busch distribution business. Speakeasy beer distributor. Butner reportedly paid $2.5 million for the business.

Full Circle Brewing Co., the oldest running brewery in the Central Valley was acquired by Arthur Moye in 2016. Moye was a CPA with a passion for homebrewing before selling his practice to acquire Full Circle Brewing Co. Full Circle also acquired the Sonoma Cider brands in 2018 after the cidery liquidated.
