News ABInBev and Molson Coors Show Big Drop in 2nd Quarter Financial Reports
In a peek at how the global pandemic is impacting the worldwide beer market, Anheuser-Busch InBev disclosed their second quarter earnings yesterday. Global revenue declined by 17.7% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year with a decline of 12.0% year-to-date. Beer volume was down 17.0%. The worlds largest brewer showed signs of recovery, with April volumes down by 32.4%, May down by 21.4% and June down by 0.7%. Click here for a transcript of the investor call.

News Coca-Cola Joins the Hard Seltzer Party
How popular is hard seltzer these days? Seems like no one in the beverage business wants to be left on the sidelines, including Coca-Cola, who has announced that they will launch a hard seltzer under the brand Topo Chico. The drink will initially be test-marketed in select cities in Latin America.

News Court of Appeals OK’s Anheuser-Busch Corn Syrup Ads
It became known as “Corngate.” It was triggered by an Anheuser-Busch ad campaign stating that AB does not include corn syrup as an ingredient while Miller Lite and Coors Light does use corn syrup. That was followed by a lawsuit filed by MillerCoors in March in a Wisconsin federal court in which it sought to halt what it claimed was “false and misleading” ad claims and “willful trademark dilution,” saying that the ads had damaged the reputation of Miller Lite and Coors Light. A Wisconsin district court temporarily barred AB from running the ad campaign and blocked AB from using “no corn syrup” on its Bud Light packaging.

News Mexican Brewers Shut Down After Being Deemed ‘Non-Essential’
Reports began to surface yesterday that the Mexican beer industry is shutting down for at least a month to help stem the spread of COVID-19. The Mexican government has classified breweries in the country as “non-essential.” Grupo Modelo, which is part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, operates 11 breweries in Mexico and produces Corona and Modelo brands which are distributed in the US by Constellation Brands. The Corona and Modelo brands accounts for 67% of total net sales of Constellation Brands.

News Molson Coors Beats Expectations in Fourth Qtr.
After announcing a new revitalization plan in late October, Molson Coors Beverage Co. reported declines in its worldwide brand volume, but reported fourth-quarter net income of $163.7 million, more than double the $76 million of the year-earlier quarter.

Mark Anthony Brewing, maker of White Claw hard seltzer will build a new, 916,000 square foot production plant in Glendale, AZ. The $250 million facility is expected to be completed in a quick seven months in order to meet exploding demand..

News Pabst to Move Production from MillerCoors to City Brewing
As the beer world turns. Few beer consumers know that many large beer brands are often brewed in breweries far removed from the brand itself. Pabst is a classic example of a brand without a true home, having been brewed under contract for many years at MillerCoors breweries.

News Constellation to Close VA Ballast Point Location
Constellation isn’t giving up on Ballast Point yet, but in a sign that they are trying to minimize loses on their $1 billion investment, it was reported yesterday that the Ballast Point taproom and restaurant in Daleville, Virginia will close.
