Senate Bill 219, which is making its way through the Georgia General Assembly, would allow the state’s breweries to transfer beer between locations and increase the amount of beer per year breweries can sell directly to customers.

News St. Patrick’s Day On Premise Sales Down 21% Versus 2019
According to a report by BeerBoard, on-premise St. Patrick’s Day beer sales were down 20.9% versus 2019. The company skipped the year 2020 in its annual report because of the shutdown during last year’s St. Pat’s day due to the pandemic.

It took ten years for craft brewers to finally pass franchise reform legislation earlier this year. And already there are two disputes between wholesalers and brewers. News Merger of the Kegs: MicroStar Buys KegStar
MicroStar Logistics, the largest independent owner of beer kegs in the world, announced that it has acquired the keg rental company Kegstar. The acquisition will grow Denver-based MicroStar’s international business by taking on Kegstar’s clients which include breweries in Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

News Popularity of ‘Self-Pour’ Systems Grows During Pandemic
Draft “self-pour” systems, where the customer pours beer from the tap faucet themselves with payment made by a credit card tied to an RFID card that dispenses the beer automatically, have grown popular during the pandemic. The systems are being touted to consumers as less contact with servers and being marketed to retailers as a way to save waste at the faucet. The systems are said to increase profit margin to the retailers by as much as 21% on each keg.

News On Premise Business Holding Steady
Data from Nielson CGA shows that 50% of consumers have gone out to the on premise for an eating occasion since venues reopened, and 17% for a drink led occasion. This has stayed relatively even for several months now and may indicate an end to the decline in business since the pandemic began in March of last year.

News After 10-Year Effort – MA Finally Gets Franchise Reform
After a 10-year effort to pass franchise reform in Massachusetts, the Mass Brewers Guild and the Massachusetts Wholesalers Association have finally forged a compromise. Senate Bill 2841 was passed by Massachusetts lawmakers in a final vote yesterday.

News On-Premise Shows Slight Decline Due to Latest Virus Surge
According to Nielsen CGA’s latest Impact Report, 50% of consumers have gone out to the on-premise to eat in the past 2 weeks, slightly down from 54% in the November survey. The report attributes the decline to tighter restrictions across a number of states.
