News Reyes Consolidation Continues – Acquires Greenco and Powers
Reyes Beer Division has officially closed on its acquisition of Greenco Beverage Co. in Greenville, S.C. according to an article in Craft Brewing Business. The new operations will now do business as Greenco Distributing. The acquisition adds approximately 2.8 million cases and includes brands from as Molson Coors, Constellation, Yuengling, Heineken, Diageo, Boston Beer, Mark Anthony Brands, Lagunitas and Sweetwater.

News Seismic Brewing Takes on Reyes in High Stakes Legal Battle
Seismic Brewing is taking on Reyes Holdings, the largest beer wholesaler in the country and the eighth-largest private company in the United States, in a dispute that could daylight the power and leverage that large distributors hold over craft brewers. Reyes filed suit against Seismic after the Santa Rosa, California brewer refused to move their brands from DBI Distributing to Reyes after Reyes acquired DBI. Seismic then filed a cross complaint against Reyes.

News TTB Accepts $325K Settlement from IBEV for Trade Practice Violations
The Alcohol Tobacco and Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) recently accepted a $325,000 offer in compromise from beer distribution company Iowa Beverage Systems (IBEV), to settle alleged trade practice violations. The violations included purchasing tap handles and making payments to a retailer in exchange for only buying IBEV products.

News Boston Beer Subsidiary to Launch Cannabis-Infused Beverages in Canada
Entourage Health Corp., a Canadian producer and distributor of cannabis products and brands announced that its subsidiary and license holder WeedMD RX Inc. has signed an agreement with BBCCC, Inc., a subsidiary of the Boston Beer Company to launch a new portfolio of non-alcoholic cannabis-infused beverages in Canada.

News On-Premise Sales Leveling Off But Still Ahead of Pre-Pandemic 2019
Average on-premise sales trends have leveled off in the latest 2 weeks following months of growth, but velocity remains strong vs the pre-pandemic year 2019 with sales in the latest two weeks up 18% over the same period two years ago, according to CGA. The last 12 weeks are up 46% versus 2019.

News SF Imposes Proof of Vaccination to Enter On-Premise Establishments – Other Cities May Do the Same
In a move that will includes brewery tasting rooms and brewpubs, San Francisco will require customers to show proof of complete vaccination against COVID-19 to enter on-premise dining and drinking establishments as well as gyms and other indoor venues. The requirement will take affect starting Aug. 20th for patrons and Oct. 13th for employees.

News NBWA Releases July Beer Purchasers’ Index Indicating Out-of-Stock Issues Continue to Persist
The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) released the Beer Purchasers’ Index (BPI) for July 2021. The “at-risk” inventory index is at 35 (inventory at risk of going out of code in the next 30 days) which is still well below 50, signaling continued supply constraints and out-of-stocks in distribution.

News Violation of Franchise Laws Costs Jägermeister $12 Million

Have you ever wondered what the penalty might be if a alcohol beverage manufacturer lost a court case against a wholesaler in a franchise dispute? It doesn’t happen often that franchise disputes go before a jury, but in Missouri court case, the cost was high. Jägermeister was been found guilty of violating a contract with their distributor Major Brands Inc, with a jury awarding nearly $12 million in damages to Major Brands.
