News Reyes Acquires Central Coast in Calif.
Harbor Distributing, a southern California wholesaler division of Reyes Beverage has acquired Central Coast Distributing, the MillerCoors distributor for San Luis Obispo and the northern area of Santa Barbara counties. Coast also carries some significant craft brands including Sierra Nevada, Boston Beer, Lagunitas and others.

News Columbia Distributing Buys Graybeal
Columbia Distributing, the large Pacific Northwest wholesaler, has gained more territory as it has announced it will purchase Graybeal Distributing of Pendleton, Oregon. Graybeal sells a little over 1 million cases, including the MillerCoors portfolio, Heineken and a variety of craft. This is the latest in the ongoing consolidation of the middle tier as the large wholesalers get larger through acquisitions of smaller “heritage” wholesalers.

News LA Distributor Mission Beverage to Close
Mission Beverage in Los Angeles will be closing down after selling off its Heineken brands to both Reyes Beverage Group and Classic Distributing & Beverage. Mission just recently lost its Constellation portfolio to Reyes, which was a significant part of their total business

News TTB Fines Wholesaler for Pay-to-Play
Elgin Beverage, an Illinois wholesaler of Constellation Brands and other beverages has been fined by the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) for pay-to-play practices in the marketplace. The TTB accused Elgin of making improper payments to retail accounts seeking preferred placement of its products. The wholesaler negotiated a fine of $325,000 for the infractions.

News Trump to Support Ending Federal Ban on Cannabis?
The L.A. Times has reported that President Trump would support a congressional effort to remove the federal government’s ban on cannabis. Ending enforcement against cannabis by the Justice Department would likely stimulate a dramatic increase in the cannabis industry, and could remove the TTB’s ban on CBD oils, hemp and potentially even THC in beer.

News Columbia Acquires Two Wholesalers
Columbia Distributing of Portland, Oregon has made two acquisitions over the course of just a few weeks, purchasing both Oregon-based General Distributors and Marine View Beverage in western Washington. The two deals combined will add about 11 million cases of sales to Columbia.

News Nominations for Beer Distrib of the Year
The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) and the Brewers Association (BA) are seeking nominations for the Seventh Annual Craft Beer Distributor of the Year Award. The award recognizes an American beer distributor who goes above and beyond in their efforts to actively market, sell and promote craft beer.

Four major-brand wholesalers in the Pacific Northwest, Marine View Beverage, Sound Beverage, Odom and C. Stein Beverage have announced their partnership in a new company Great Artisan Beverage Co. that will distribute craft and specialty brands throughout the Pacific Northwest region.

News Brown Dist. Gets 'Best' Award
The Brewers Association and the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) announce Saturday that Brown Distributing Company, based in West Palm Beach, Fla. has been named the 2012 Craft Beer Distributor of the Year. The Craft Beer Distributor of the Year Award, now in its sixth year, recognizes the beer distributor who does the most to market, promote and sell craft beer. NBWA and BA presented the award jointly the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

News Artisanal Picks Up SBS Brands
Artisanal Imports of Austin, TX announced today the acquisition of the USA brand importing rights held by SBS Imports of Seattle, WA. Artisanal will now be the exclusive U.S. importer of Aspall Cyders from Suffolk, England; Batemans Ales from Lincolshire, England; Bellegems Bruin from the Bockor Brewery in Bellegem, Belgium; and the De Proef Brewmaster’s & Collaboration Series from Lochristi, Belgium. The acquisition will become effective September 1, 2012. Other terms were not disclosed.
