News Former Atwater Owner Buys Majority Stake in Lansing Brewing

Mark Rieth, former owner and president of Detroit’s Atwater Brewery, announced a return to the craft beer industry by acquiring a majority stake in Lansing Brewing Co.

Rieth founded Atwater Brewery in 1997 and purchased the brewery outright in 2005. He later sold the brewery to Molson Coors in January of 2020.

The original Lansing Brewing has a deep past. It was founded in 1897 before closing its doors in 1914 when local Prohibition arrived. The current Lansing Brewing was founded in 2015 by Jennifer Gillespie, the wife of Gillespie Group President Pat Gillespie. The brewery is housed in a 7,000-square foot former auto warehouse in the Stadium District of Lansing, MI.

Rieth has been busy in the beverage industry since selling Atwater. He founded Detroit Liquid Ventures, a full-service beverage company, and launched a line of energy drinks and nonalcoholic beers in 2022.
