After two months of positive shipments by domestic brewers, March took a hearty plunge downward with total shipments down by 13.6% versus March of last year. That drop puts total shipments down by 1.8% for year-to-date through March.
The March 2024 estimate by the Beer Institute is 12,700,000 barrels, down from 14,692,547 barrels in March of 2023.
The year started out encouraging with January and February up 2.6% and 9.5% respectively, but the dismal March numbers put the year in negative territory.
