News Majority of Virginians Want Cocktails To-Go Permanently

Like many states, Virginia has temporarily authorized restaurants and bars to sell drinks to-go during the pandemic.

Now, more than three-fourths of Virginians want the state to allow the practice permanently, according to a survey posted by the Center Square and conducted by the National Restaurant Association

An online survey said 78 percent of Virginians support allowing the practice permanently and that about one-third of Virginia adults recently purchased an alcoholic beverage with a takeout order. Nearly 40 percent of patrons said having the option to purchase alcohol made them more likely to choose a restaurant over a competitor who did not offer the option.

As consumers get a taste of these new temporary alcohol allowances, some states may have a hard time putting the Genie back in the bottle.
