News Asahi to Close Meantime Brewery in UK

Asahi announced that it is closing Meantime Brewery in Greenwich, UK and will move the brewing of Meantime beers to its Fuller’s site in Chiswick. The move is becoming familiar as large brewers close small craft breweries that they acquired in order to consolidate production.

Meantime was founded in 1999 by Alastair Hook who trained at Heriot-Watt University and the brewing school of the Technical University of Munich of Weihenstephan. In 2014 the brewery was producing 50,000 hectoliters annually.

The brewery was purchased by SABMiller in 2015 and then sold to Asahi Breweries in October 2016.
