Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue signed legislation Thursday allowing sales of beer that is higher in alcohol content than the current limit for beer sold in that state. The current limit of six percent alcohol would more than double, allowing sales of beer with up to 14 percent alcohol content. The law was passed in recent weeks by Georgia’s legislature, and has been awaiting the governor’s signature. The proposal to raise the allowed beer-alcohol content in the state had been contested in recent years, promoted by advocates who complained that Georgia’s six percent alcohol limits were preventing the importation and sale of high-potency brews available in other states.
