News Top Selling Beers in UK Pubs May Be a Surprise
Pubs have finally re-opened for outside service in the UK after a 3-month shutdown due to the pandemic. News Number of UK Breweries Increases in 2020 Despite the Pandemic
Despite the massive on-premise shutdowns in the UK due to the global pandemic, new data from the accounting firm UHY Hacker Young, using figures from HM Revenue and Customs, has revealed that the number of breweries in the UK actually increased last year.

News Beer Sales in Germany Fall by 5.5% in 2020
Beer sales in Germany fell by 5.5% or 508.2 million liters in 2020 compared to the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The figures do not include alcohol-free beers and malt drinks, as well as beer imported from countries outside the European Union (EU).

News Merger of the Kegs: MicroStar Buys KegStar
MicroStar Logistics, the largest independent owner of beer kegs in the world, announced that it has acquired the keg rental company Kegstar. The acquisition will grow Denver-based MicroStar’s international business by taking on Kegstar’s clients which include breweries in Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

News Martson’s to Take Over 150 Brains Pubs in Wales
Brains Brewery, the Welsh brewing company and pub owner, will hand over control of 156 of its pubs to UK brewer and pub operator Marston’s Beer Company. The pubs will be run under the Brains brand, and will continue to sell its beer, which is brewed at a facility in Cardiff Bay.

News Global Alcohol Expected to Decline by 8% in 2020
According to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, alcohol beverage will be down by 8% versus 2019 across 19 global markets due to the worldwide pandemic. The U.S. and Canada are bright spots with each expected to show volume growth this year of over 2% total.

News US Imports of Wine and Whisky Show Sharp Drop Due to Tariff War
Last month the World Trade Organization authorized the EU to impose $4 billion in tariffs on US imports in the ongoing dispute. The 16-year feud, which centers around subsidies given to Boeing and Airbus, is now the WTO’s longest-running corporate dispute.
