Michigan Bill Will Double Self-Distribution Volume for Craft Brewers

June 22, 2020

Small breweries in Michigan could be able sell and deliver more beer to retail stores without having to go through wholesalers under legislation that cleared the Senate last week.

The bill, which is expected to be signed into law by the governor, will let craft brewers self-distribute up to 2,000 barrels annually, an increase over the current limit of 1,000 barrels. On-premises sales would no longer count against the limit as well. The bill is part of a large legislative package that will also make licensing for beer festivals easier and reduce the frequency of excise tax payments.
