The freshness of any canned product is dependent on the quality of its closure, so if you’re canning your own beer, one of your most critical areas of focus should be ensuring the best seam possible. The taste and shelf life – and ultimately the reputation – of your brand depends on it.

Pneumatic Scale Angelus has long been known as the industry leader in can seaming technology for high speed beverage lines, and we have taken that expertise and scaled it for the needs of craft brewers. In this session you’ll learn the essentials of seaming and what role it plays when selecting a canning line. Join our experts as they share their knowledge on:

1. What is a double seam and why does it matter?
2. What are the essential components of a double seam?
3. What part does seamer tooling play in seam formation?
4. What is the process for proper seam formation and what adjustments can affect seam quality?
5. What are the characteristics of an ideal seam versus one that compromises the quality of your product?

At the end of this session, you’ll understand the impact a proper seam has on your finished product. Join us for Episode 2 to learn about the tools, measurements, and procedures for evaluating seam quality, including internal and external examination. In Episode 3, we’ll pull it all together with a demonstration using our own CB50 canning line.

Speaker: Connor McCaulley, Kyle Kelleher, Mark Pirog, Mark Saylor, Pneumatic Scale Angelus

Bio: The pride you take in brewing is serious business; selecting the right canning line is among the most critical decisions. With 130 years of experience, and 16,000 canning lines in 132 countries, Pneumatic Scale Angelus is as serious about canning technology as you are about brewing. When it’s time to choose a canning machine worthy of those standards, you can rely on our expertise. With our inline canners, flowmeter technology ensures a perfect fill at speeds to 100 CPM, and our gas flush system keeps oxygen levels under control. Our high-speed seamer design, scaled for single head operation, delivers the only repeatable hermetic double seam in the industry. Our rotary machines use electro-mechanically controlled filling heads that ensure fill level accuracy within +/- 0.5 grams of target volume, and 4 seaming heads with the same industry-leading seal, helping you increase production without drastically increasing footprint. Now those are serious solutions!
