Our industry is facing an unprecedented level of disruption and reduced production during the pandemic crisis. This is a system-wide issue, but other modes of business interruption exist, ranging from severe weather complications to mechanical failures to recalls. This webinar will explore a wide variety of potential triggers that can lead to forced shut-downs and review strategies for proactively developing plans to address these situations. No plan will prevent a power outage, for example, but we can work out policies and procedures that can reduce the duration and severity of the incident.

About the Presenter – Gary Nicholas, Nicholas Brewing Projects LLC

Gary Nicholas is the founder of Nicholas Brewing Projects LLC. Prior to opening his own firm, he served as Special Projects Manager for Surly Brewing Company, where he was tasked with supporting the brewery’s expansion through a variety of interdepartmental initiatives, including safety & quality programs, coordinating long-term production management between operations & sales, and developing training modules for both internal & external audiences.

Before joining Surly Brewing, Gary spent 13 years with Bell’s Brewery, Inc. He began as the Quality Manager in 2001 and added responsibilities in environmental health & safety in 2003. Later, he developed & managed a new Training & Professional Development group, where his responsibilities included designing & leading educational programs on a broad scope of topics. He holds a BA in Chemistry from Carleton College and began his brewing career in 1997 with the Goose Island Beer Company after graduating from the Siebel Institute of Brewing Technology.

Since 2012, Gary has taught the Quality module at the annual MBAA Packaging Technology course. He has delivered numerous presentations on safety and quality issues at MBAA events, the World Brewing Congress, and Craft Brewers Conferences. Locally, he serves on the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild Safety Committee.
