Predicting trends and changes can be the differentiator between leading and following the pack. Real-time data is essential in an ever-evolving industry and visibility to supply chain shortages and delays enable production and sales agility. Real-time data capture allows manufacturers to decrease cash flow tied up in raw materials, identify quality issues before they become lost product, and leverage reporting to grow key business areas.

Through personal experience I will discuss scenarios that benefit from increasing company visibility. Highlighting the importance of where the data points need to be captured and how the information can be utilized downstream. The scenario will be discussed through the lens of three key departments; procurement, production, and sales. Each department is dependent on the passage of information through alerts, SOP’s and education. Creating data points to communicate the high priority information and implementing standards provides each department with simple pivot points.

The ability to collect data quickly and efficiently throughout each department is the key to growing a world-class business. Data collection is required at each level of production as every function in the brewery is deeply dependent on one another. It begins with projected sales, quantity needed to meet demand, locations of where inventory is sold, and item transportation. This drives procurement which can be maximized through contracts, minimum order quantity, and even group purchasing. Production of beer and finished goods is the final key to fulfilling sales orders and evaluating gaps in future rounds of sales projections.
