Webinar Summary

In a time where so many breweries are struggling to get the most from their time and ingredients, this is a way to do just that. More product from the same amount of raw materials is a win. A large local craft brewery calculated they will make $1,000,000 worth of the flagship IPA by simply installing this process into their brewery.

The process described takes aim at the issue of beer losses from dry hopping or other in-fermenter additions. Solids particles that have settled to the bottom of the fermenter are processed through the decanter and the separated beer is returned to the fermenter while the solids are conveyed away for disposal (landfill or similar method). The removal of these solids results in a much lower solid discharge in the wastewater which means fewer surcharges by the local municipality. There is also a reduction of solids. going to the filter/finishing centrifuge resulting in fewer filter media usage or centrifuge maintenance/wear and tear.

Only the bottom 10-20% of the tank needs to be processed so run times are short and smaller (less expensive) equipment can be used compared to processing the whole tank volume. Through pilot testing and process optimization, this process has been proven to increase fermenter yields up to 10%.
