Effort to Unionize Surly Employees Fails by One Vote

News »  Business of Beerposted Oct 8th 03:34:19PM by Tom McCormick

A little over a month after Surly Brewing Company announced the closure of their Beer Hall location and employees announced their intent to unionize as part of Unite Here Local 17, a vote by the employees to join the union has failed – by one vote.

Unite Here 17 stated in a tweet, “Today the vast majority of workers who voted in the election voted for the Union. Sadly, our election agreement specified that to win we would need the majority of ALL workers not just those who voted. We fell short of that by 1 vote.”
