What’s Brewing at EKU?
Growth of fermentation commodities (e.g. beer, distilled spirits, and wine) is only predicted to increase in the future where the greatest amount of growth will be in the craft industries. Kentucky has tremendous potential for growth in craft fermentation industries and the economic implications are encouraging. The program will contain a collection of courses that will allow students to directly learn about the different aspects of the industry as well as experience laboratories that address the analytics and quality control for these products. The students that enroll in this program would need to be dedicated to the scientific and safety advancements pertaining to fermentation science, which will involve chemistry as well as biology and agriculture.

Mission: The Eastern Kentucky University Fermentation Science Program provides an opportunity that will allow students to obtain a strong foundation in different areas of knowledge in agriculture, chemistry, biology, safety, and business along with laboratory and problem solving skills that can be integrated so students can actively engage in the industry. The Program also provides service to the local, regional, and global community by providing facilities and amenities that can be applied to fermentation science continuing education.
