Single-Tier Brew Sculpture + Fermenter ( $4,999.00 )

Used Brewing Equipment - Misc. / Classified Ad Posted 1 week ago by Jay Brooks / 1037 views

When my son was little, he kept asking to homebrew and so I promised him when he turned 12, we would. I figured he’d forget about it, but he didn’t. So in the Fall of 2013, I ordered a Brew Sculpture and Fermenter from MoreBeer! for his birthday and he brewed his first batch of beer in September, a Porter (since that’s his name). Vinnie Cilurzo (from Russian River) wrote the recipe for him and Vinnie and Rich Norgrove (from Bear Republic) did the brew with him, while Justin Crossley from the Brewing Network brought a crew and filmed it.

Fast forward six years and he’s now 18, a senior in high school, and about to (probably) attend a military academy (first choice is Navy, then Air Force). Needless to say, his interest waned pretty quickly and the Brew Sculpture has sat out on our back deck (usually under a tarp) ever since. We only ever did one more batch, which he did with Alan Sprints (from Hair of the Dog) when he visited me in 2014 (I think). Now that’s he’s getting ready to move out, it seems best to find it a new home.

I originally paid around $8,000 for everything, although I was given an industry discount so it would have been closer to $9,000. I’m a beer writer in the Bay Area, and have been covering the beer industry for close to thirty years. Anyway, as you can see in the photos it’s not in perfect condition and the frame has started to rust. It definitely needs a good cleaning, but hey, what brewing equipment doesn’t? The fermentor started out jacketed, but as you can see in the picture, that foam has deteriorated to the point where it will have to be thrown out, sad to say. I believe the electronics all work though it hasn’t been used in several years. I have also several boxes of miscellaneous equipment, empty unused bottles, a drying rack, cap sealer, and more that comes with it since I won’t need any of those going forward.

It seems like it would make a decent pilot brewery for any brewery wanting to test recipes before scaling them up, and I know several breweries in the area that have similar set-ups for just that.

I just made up the price, since I’m not looking to gouge anybody and am just hoping to recoup some of the initials costs. I’ll certainly entertain any reasonable offers.

Final note. I DO NOT have the means to ship it anywhere, so it will have to be picked up. It’s on our back deck, and will need to be carried down a short flight of stairs (7 steps) which I know can be done since we did get it up those same stairs in 2013. We’re located just off Highway 101 in Cotati, which is in Sonoma County, California, equidistant between Santa Rosa and Petaluma. Any questions, give me a call. Thanks, J.
