News Shmaltz Brewing Sells Brand After 25 Years – New Owner Plans Relaunch

The Shmaltz Brewing Company has found a new home, having sold the company to NYC-based Rabbinical student Jesse Epstein, who plans to relaunch the brand.

Epstein, a 3rd year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion and craft beer aficionado spent the first half of the pandemic homebrewing beer in his parents’ basement, with dreams of someday opening up a “Jewish Brewpub,” reached out to founder Jeremy Cowan when Cowan announced Shmaltz’s Farewell Tour in the fall of 2021.

With Cowan’s guidance, Epstein has developed a relaunch plan for Shmaltz, complete with numerous pilot initiatives aimed at achieving the brand’s new mission of community building and meaningful, approachable Jewish engagement.

Cowen, who started the Shmaltz brand a little over 25 years ago will remain involved as a minority owner.
