Sapporo Holdings Ltd is looking for a west coast production facility in the U.S. to increase efficiencies of production and shipping.
Currently, most Sapporo beer in the U.S. is brewed in Canada or Vietnam with a samll amount brewed under contract at City Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sapporo Premium has been the #1 selling Asian beer in the United States since 1984.
Sapporo said it might look at acquiring a brewery or expanding its contract manufacturing in the U.S. The Tokyo-based company also owns Anchor Brewing in San Francisco which it acquired in 2017. Sapporo is the oldest brand of beer in Japan and was first brewed in Sapporo, Japan, in 1876.
