Rolling Rock May Rock Again

A closed Latrobe, Pennsylvania, brewery that once produced Rolling Rock beer may be close to reopening.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell announced state grants and loans totaling more than $4.5 million to help the brewery’s new owner, La Crosse, Wisconsin, based City Brewing Company, upgrade the plant and expand its production capacity.

The brewery closed in July last year after its former owner, InBev USA, sold the Rolling Rock brand to Saint Louis-based Anheuser-Busch for $82 million.

Rendell says the state’s investment will put at least 250 people back to work by June 1st. It will also be leveraged to attract a $10.4 million investment from the Wisconsin-based company.
