News Sierra Nevada’s ‘Pauses’ Sufferfest Production

Sufferfest Beer Company, acquired by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company last year, has said they are “pausing production to explore what’s next,” for the brand, according to a statement on their website.

The statement said they do not plan to release any beers in 2021. “As athletes know, the path to success is rarely a straight line, and it is time to find our bearing. Whatever comes next on our journey, we will keep on sweating and celebrating, just as we always have. Thank you for being beside us through it all,” the statement said.

Sufferfest Beer Company makes gluten-removed, low-calorie beers and was founded in 2016 before being bought by Sierra Nevada in February of 2019.

IRI data indicated that sales in chain retail stores would be about $514,000 for the entire Sufferfest portfolio in 2020, according to an article in Good Beer Hunting. As comparison, Sierra Nevada will sell nearly 200 times that with their popular Hazy Little Thing IPA in 2020.
