New Glarus Expansion

Beverage Industry News» News From The Breweriesposted Jun 5th, 2009 by pbrewadmin

New production facility will add 100,000 bbls to capacity

The long-awaited expansion of the New Glarus Brewing Co. is nearly complete, with tours of the new $20 million Hilltop Brewery beginning this week and a grand opening scheduled Saturday, June 13.

“We’re doing kind of a soft opening this week to get a feel for how it’s going to go,” co-founder Deb Carey said Wednesday.

The new brewery added 100,000 barrels of capacity to the 30,000 barrels already produced at the Riverside Brewery. They anticipate sales of over 80,000 barrels in 2009, all sold exclusively in Wisconsin.

The brewery, which has earned a number of global gold awards and made its reputation throughout Wisconsin with a stable of craft brews headed by the highly popular Spotted Cow, will be offering tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and also has a new gift shop that is open to the public.

80,000 BBls in Wisconsin alone!!!. That is true local beer support. I have never had the beer but I can not wait to try it someday. Must be some great tasting product.

After too many road trips to the Madison area, picking up too much beer, and then drinking it in quantities that are much too large, I have to offer my congratulations. The beer has maintained its quality and integrity ever since I started drinking it. Not a lot of rapidly growing breweries can say that.

I had the pleasure of touring the new Hill Top facility before the Great Taste. I rounded the corner to see the “coppers” shown in the pic. above and thought “How traditional”. When faced head-on you see the Steineker (sp?) S/S and glass manways hidden behind the rolling copper manways. Very modern equipment dressed up as old school copper. Awesome.

My parents just attended a wedding out that way and said that the local support for New Glarus was staggering, they said the spotted cow was excellent as well.
