News New Digs for Oskar Blues

Brewery to double capacity at new location

Oskar Blues Inc.of Lyons, Colorado plans to open a second brewery and double its beer-making capacity to accommodate recent growth.

Oskar Blues has leased 18,000 square feet of space in nearby Longmont where it will brew and package all of Oskar Blues’ canned and kegged beer. The company’s existing, 2,400-square-foot Lyons brewery will continue to make beer for its brewpub there.

Oskar Blues’ production has grown more than 1,000 percent since it started selling canned beer in 2002, according to the company. The microbrewery is one of the first in the country to can its own beer.

Oskar Blues expects the new brewery to produce 30,000 barrels a year, which is double the 15,000 barrels it expects to make this year.

The company plans to open its Longmont brewery, with a tasting room in January 2008.

Owner Dale Katechis started Oskar Blues in Lyons in 1997, and added the brewpub in 1999.
