Scientists with the University of Florida are working to develop the best crops for Florida farms to grow — and that includes hops.
For a few years now at UF’s Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences Gulf Coast Research Center, they have been experimenting with growing hops. The researchers have found that LED lighting must be used to replicate the photoperiod that is required for the hops to flower.
Last week, Swan Brewing in Lakeland, FL introduced Gator Pale Ale which is made only from hops grown in Florida.
