News MillerCoors Pulls Out of Big Beer Ad Campaign

A marketing campaign by the top four beer producers to reinvigorate beer sales in the U.S. may have been torpedoed by the corn syrup ads initiated by Anheuser Busch during the Super Bowl.

An article in the Wall Street Journal details how a multi million-dollar ad campaign that has been in the planning stages for nearly a year by Anheuser-Busch InBev, Molson Coors, Heineken and Constellation Brands has been halted after Miller Coors pulled out of the group citing the recent Super Bowl ads as “demonizing beer ingredients.”

The bigger question is would this campaign have worked, or is it too little, too late to salvage the decline of light, low-flavor corporate lagers as consumers trend more and more towards more flavorful and interesting craft beers and the new age of spirits and wine? We may not find out the answer if the spate between the Big Brewers keeps the marketing campaign on ice.
