Big Beer Begins Nutritional Labeling

Beverage Industry News» Major Brand Newsposted Jan 14th, 2019 09:59:33PM by Tom McCormick

Anheuser-Busch InBev will begin putting large and prominent listing of calories and ingredients as well as the amount of fat, carbohydrates and protein in a serving on Bud Light packaging.  This is the first significant brand to carry the nutritional information since major beer makers agreed in 2016 to voluntarily disclose nutrition facts on their products by 2020.

The nutritional labeling is not required by the federal government and is strictly voluntary. Since it is not specifically regulated by the government, there will not be any checking of accuracy. It is quite possible, if not likely that many large beer brands will only list a partial list of all ingredients in the product. Bud Light lists its four ingredients: water, barley, rice and hops.

It is expected that most if not all global beer brands will be adding similar labeling before the end of the year.
