Lowering Drinking Age on 60 Minutes

Beverage Industry News» Beverage Industry Newsposted Feb 20th, 2009 11:22:21PM by pbrewadmin

Segment this Sunday will address idea of lowering drinking age to 18

This Sunday 60 Minutes will be airing a segment on the drinking age debate.

Last summer a group of university professors signed a petition to encourage open discussion on the the benefits of lowering the drinking age to 18. Since then there has been moderate coverage in the mainstream media about this notion.

Proponents of lowering the drinking age have suggested a mandatory education program that would teach safe and moderate consumption.

MADD and other anti-drinking groups argue that drunk driving deaths have been reduced since the National Minimum Drinking Age Act was put into effect.

Thanks for posting the link. It’s nice to see they are getting the discussion they were hoping for. I felt 60 minutes did a great job with a difficult subject.

I’m a firm believer in teaching my kids responsible use around the dinner table. Total abstinence is impossible control in other people.

It is actually a little higher up than professors. It is Chancellors and Presidents of Higher Ed institutions.

College campuses could greatly benefit by being able to teach social responsibility in relation to alcohol consumption instead of punishing underage drinking.
