Texas finally joined the rest of the country this last weekend when Governor Greg Abbott signed into law House Bill 1545 that will allow breweries in the state to sell beer to go. The law will take effect on Sept. 1st.
The bill was initially opposed by the Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas evidently didn’t like the prospect of consumers directly taking beer home from a brewery, diverting revenue from distributors according to the Dallas News. Eventually the wholesalers and the craft brewers’ guild struck a deal, agreeing to a cap on brewery sales of one case per person per day.
