News BA Amps Up Governmental Affairs Program with Two New Hires

The Brewers Association took a significant leap into strengthening the association’s government affairs program by hiring two people for the newly created position of state government affairs manager.

The slots were filled by Nancy Palmer and Sam DeWitt.

The new positions will give the BA more firepower to assist state guilds in their efforts to protect independent craft brewers at the state level where most of the legislative action occurs that impacts small brewers.

“We are honored to add Nancy and Sam to the Brewers Association government affairs team,” said Bob Pease, president and CEO, Brewers Association. “With their combined expertise working alongside General Counsel Marc Sorini and State & Regulatory Affairs Manager Pete Johnson, we are positioned to effectively support Brewers Association members and state guilds on government affairs issues at the state level during a time of considerable change.”

Palmer was the first executive director and lobbyist of the Georgia Craft Brewers’ Guild for six years before taking a job as a lobbyist outside the industry and is the 2018 recipient of the Brewers Association F.X. Matt Defense of the Industry Award. DeWitt was the legislative campaigns manager for nonprofit Compassion & Choices and chief of staff for former Colorado state representative Diane Mitsch Bush.
