News War in Ukraine Has Far Reaching Impact on Alcohol Beverage Industry

The war in Ukraine is likely to have numerous impacts on the global alcohol beverage industry.

For brewers it may mean an increase in barley prices. For retailers it may bring a halt to the sales of Russian vodka. Many on-premise retailers across the globe have been publicly pouring their Russian vodka brands down the drain to protest the war. And there have been many lists of “best non-Russian vodkas” to choose from.

But of the many stories from the industry that have been circulating, none has been more impactful and gripping than the posts from the Ukrainian brewery Pravda in Lviv that has stopped making craft beer in order to make Molotov cocktails using their 750ml bottles in the fight against advancing Russian troops.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has had an immediate financial effect on many alcohol producers as well who have begun to feel the impact of the heavy sanctions.
