Historic Brewery to Close

The world’s largest brewer said Tuesday it plans to close a historic 600-year-old brewery on the banks of the river Thames in London.

Anheuser-Busch InBev on Tuesday said it plans in 2010 to shutter the Stag Brewery, in west London, one of the oldest brewing sites in Britain. The Stag Brewery had been owned by Anheuser-Busch until last year’s takeover. It produces Budweiser, Bud Ice and Michelob Ultra beers. It currently employs 182 workers.

The company said in its statement that it will restructure its operations in Britain in response to weak economic conditions and sharp increases in beer taxes.
