News High-End Wine Category on the Rise

Craft beers also show surge

In a good trend for craft and specialty brewers, high-end wines are booming, according to marketing information company ACNielsen

Sales of wines in the $11 and higher category have risen almost 20 percent over last year the company said. Wines costing $7 to $11 have risen 6 percent and wines costing less than $7 have risen 1.4 percent.

The latest scan data from supermarkets have also told a compelling story for specialty brewers.

Through May, craft beer was up a whopping 8.7 percent in supermarket scans while the major domestics were down 2.0 percent. Imports gained 1.7 percent.
