Former brewery owner (oh, and also former Governor of Colorado) John Hickenlooper (D) announced today that he is running for president in 2020. John was a well-known craft brewing industry pioneer after opening the Wynkoop Brewing Company brewpub in 1988. The brewery was one of the first businesses to open in what later became the revitalized LoDo area of Denver. When it first opened, the rent for Wynkoop’s real estate was $1 per square foot per year
“I’m running for president because we need dreamers in Washington but we also need to get things done,” Hickenlooper said in a campaign video. “I’ve proven again and again I can bring people together to produce the progressive change Washington has failed to deliver,” he added. “As a skinny kid with Coke-bottle glasses and a funny last name, I’ve stood up to my fair share of bullies,”
