Foundation to Offer Brewing Scholarships

The Glen Hay Falconer Foundation Brewing Scholarships will be offering two full-tuition scholarships for the 2005 World Brewing Academy Course in Brewing Technology held at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago.

The Concise Course in Brewing Technology is a two-week intensive program that covers every topic critical to successful brewery operations. The program is designed for brewers pursuing a wider knowledge of professional brewing standards and techniques in order to advance their brewing careers as well as individuals planning to enter the brewing industry.

The Scholarship is open to professional brewers as well as home brewers from the Pacific Northwest (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Northern California regions (San Francisco Bay/Monterey Bay areas and north).

The long-term vision of the Brewing Scholarship is to grant multiple scholarships annually, to offer grants to senior-level brewers for specialty brewing courses, and to expand the geographic scope to embrace qualified candidates from all regions of the United States.

The selection committee is comprised of brewers and professionals related to the brewing industry. The full application must be received no later than April 20, 2005.

The Foundation was created to commemorate and celebrate the life, interests, and good works of Glen Falconer, a well-loved and leading Northwest brewer.

Currently, the Foundation raises the majority of its funds from the annual Sasquatch Brew Fest. The 2005 Sasquatch Brew Fest will be held June 4 in Eugene, Oregon. For more information visit www.sasquatchbrewfest.org.

The Foundation also encourages individual contributions and donations from businesses and organizations in order to expand the number and scope of grants awarded each year. Glen’s family is currently matching 50% of the first $10,000 in individual cash contributions. The Foundation has been granted non-profit status which allows contributions to be deductible for federal income tax purposes.
