Energy Drinks Probed

A handful of state attorneys general have requested documents from Anheuser-Busch and Miller Brewing Co. in connection with an investigation into their marketing practices for caffeinated alcoholic drinks, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal.

The requests have come in Maine, New York and several other states, seeking internal documents related to the companies’ marketing practices, these people said.

The requests mark the latest moves by state attorneys general to crack down on the makers of energy drinks that contain alcohol and caffeine. Last August, attorneys general from roughly 30 states sent a letter to the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, asking officials to examine what they claimed to be misleading marketing of the drinks.
