News AB Buys Distrib in Oregon

Anheuser-Busch InBev has reached a deal with St. Louis-based Major Brands to buy back an Oregon beer distributorship that it sold less than three years ago.

The agreement will return ownership of Western Beverage Co. in Eugene, Ore., to A-B InBev within the next two months, confirmed Tony Short, who leads Major Brands’ beer division. Short declined to discuss specifics of the transaction but said it was “mutually beneficial — a good move for both parties.”

A-B InBev sold Western in December 2008 to Major Brands, which distributes wines, spirits and a growing portfolio of beer, including craft brands like Schlafly, New Belgium and Stone. Western’s focus is more exclusively on beer, moving an estimated 6-7 million cases a year.
