News Deals Continue – ABV Picks up Sixpoint

Artisanal Brewing Ventures, a private equity group formed by the the merger of Victory Brewing Company and Southern Tier Brewing Company two years ago, announced today that they were acquiring Brooklyn-based Sixpoint Brewing of Brooklyn.

“Our resources, expertise in craft beer and high operating standards can unlock Sixpoint’s growth potential, improve its productivity, and allow their team to focus on what makes Sixpoint special and successful: brewing great beer, creating strong local relevance and building an authentic brand,” said John Coleman, the CEO of Artisanal Brewing Ventures in a company press release.

The deal will help finance a planned Sixpoint production brewing facility and taproom in Brooklyn. The site has not yet been determined. Sixpoint, which opened in 2004 currently produces all of its beer out of a Memphis, TN brewery. Even as craft growth levels out, private equity money is still seeing green in the segment, as evidence by this most recent acquisition. The build-out of a new production facility could allow ABV to roll-up production of all of the in-house brands into one brewing facility.

Sixpoint founder Shane Welch will not be staying with the company.
