News California Ends Meal Requirement for Brewery and Distillery Tasting Rooms

Breweries and distilleries in California will no longer be required to sell meals in conjunction with alcohol sales after a change in mind by the state Department of Public Health. Wineries have been exempt from the meal requirement since summer of last year.

The state does now require that customers make a maximum 90-minute reservation and alcohol-only service must end no later than 8 p.m.

The new allowances apply statewide regardless of the what tier each county is currently in, but some counties such as Los Angeles have said they will continue to stick with the previous requirements that all alcohol can only be sold in conjunction with a meal.
