Beverage Alcohol in 2020 Performs ‘Better than Expected’

Beverage Industry News» Business of Beerposted Nov 13th, 2020 09:19:05AM by Tom McCormick

Although alcoholic beverages have performed “better than expected” on a global basis, according to a report by IWSR, total wine and beer are both forecasted to be down about -9% in 2020 and are each unlikely to regain volumes for several years. Low-and-no alcohol beer, however, is a “bright spot for the category, as moderation and wellness trends continue to resonate with consumers,” according to the report.

The IWSR tracks market, category and brand performances of products in 157 countries across the world using local market input.

The report says that the on-premise retail business will suffer long term, potentially permanent, damage in many markets with alcohol e-commerce being the “clear winner” during the pandemic
