One of the craft brewing industry’s own has emerged as a hero in the horrific Colorado Springs mass shooting.
Rich Fierro, a US Army combat veteran who owns the Colorado Springs Atrevida Beer Company along with his wife, has been identified as the individual who tackled, disarmed and subdued the shooter during the mass casualty event at the Club Q in Colorado Springs on Saturday. Five people were killed and 18 more injured.
Atrevida Beer has posted on their Facebook page addressing the incident and said that “Rich injured both his hands, knees and ankle as he apprehended the shooter.” Tragically, the longtime boyfriend of the Fierro’s daughter was killed in the shooting.
The Facebook post goes on to say “FUCK HATE. It has left us and our community scarred but not broken. Much love to everyone.”
A detailed account of Rich’s actions are described here in a New York Times article.
All of us at ProBrewer extend our thoughts to the Fierrro family, those who we at the nightclub during the shooting, and all of those in the Colorado Springs community and across the world who were impacted by this event.
